A short play that scans the life, challenges and accomplishments of Douglass from his birth, his escape to freedom, through his exile and return from Europe after the publication of his first autobiography. The dialogue is accompanied by period songs.

Times in the Life of Frederick Douglass

The initial piece shows Frederick Douglass in his familiar role as agitator and abolitionist prior to the Raid on Harper's Ferry. He interacts with Harriet Tubman as she visits him at his home and introduces him to Shields Green who subsequently participates in the ill fated Raid.

The second piece is designed to reveal the personal side of Frederick Douglass, from the perspective of those who knew him well, his wife Anna, daughter Rosetta, and his grandmother Betsy. We'll also present the perspectives of Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman, who offer their insights. It focuses on turning points in his life and the people and events that shaped him. The setting is 1872, when a fire at his house causes the family to reminisce and face the fact that their stay in Rochester is over. The impetus for this piece is the fact that while Frederick Douglass is and was one of the most famous men in this country, we know most about him from his public words that rarely include his family and personal influences.

Seven Souls that travel together have an experience during slavery. This is THEN, what happens NOW?

They say we are Spirits having a human experience. That being said, Spirits or Souls don't change they just find themselves in different human bodies. When certain Spirits or Souls find themselves together trapped in one room, it can be very interesting and even deadly.

NOW the stage play takes place in 1945 Harlem in a nightclub. This is only a portion of the full play now and then where we see how different Spirits or Souls respond to different circumstances.

Birmingham, ALABAMA 1962. Communities have rules that restrict its' member's actions and segregation is at the forefront of the American Caste System of the day. Two teenage girls, one Black, one white meet along the color line. Living in the same city can yield vastly different experiences? Societal lines that provide a framework for “order” in a community also arbitrarily “divides” a community. What do you do when you also benefit from “The Dividing Line”?

The Bronze Collective* is an organization seeking to encourage, facilitate, and promote collaboration of projects, marketing and financing amongst Black/African Diasporic theatrical producers, producing artists, and organizations in the Greater Rochester Area. Started in 2014, as a way for theater producers to collaborate, The Bronze Collective offers the "Fest" as an outreach tool to both reach future Black/African diasporic producers, artists, volunteers, and audiences.

*An artist collective is an initiative that is the result of a group of artists working together, usually under their own management(autonomous), towards shared aims. The aims of an artist collective can include almost anything that is relevant to the needs of the artist, this can range from purchasing bulk materials, sharing equipment, space or materials, through to following shared ideologies, aesthetic and political views or even living and working together as an extended family. Sharing of ownership, risk, benefits, and status is implied, as opposed to other, more common business structures with an explicit hierarchy of ownership such as an association or a company.
