About The Event

Commotion Dance Theater

Tues June 11 at 8 PM

New and repertory work by Ruben T. Ornelas, Laurie MacFarlane, plus electronic music by guest artist Dan Evans Farkas.

LAURIE MACFARLANE has performed her choreography and improvisations throughout the US, in Canada and Mexico; in theaters, storefront windows, cafes, and even a garage in Ypsilanti.

RUBEN T. ORNELAS has done this, that, and the other, and is currently working on something unimaginable. He has been dancing and making dances for a minute.

They have been co-conspirators for many years, performing recently under the moniker Commotion Dance Theater. This evening’s work will include new and gently used dances, which incorporate sounds, text and movement to create entertaining and expressive pieces: “a light-hearted performance that requires zero effort to enjoy” (City Newspaper, 2016)

DAN EVANS FARKAS is an electronic composer who has worked with numerous choreographers including Sally Silvers, Sally Gross, Chris Ferris, Laura Shapiro and Carol Nolte. His compositions have been written for feedback (electronic and acoustic), grounding hum and oscillators (manual and light operated), children’s toys, chalkboards, modified guitars and others. Batteries of archaic guitar effects, spring reverbs and various studio detritus are the glue which hold these compositions together. Though electronic in nature and void of narrative content, Dan’s music is full of warmth and humor, resulting from the complexity and absolute lack of precision in the processing. He has also worked as a music editor for film and television since 1995.

Tickets $10 in advance, $10 students and seniors, $12 at the door
