Back Yard Stories From 1018 15th Avenue South

Feature Play: OLE TOMS NEED NOT APPLY July 3, 5, 6

By C. Kirkland Rivers

Directed by Curtis K. Rivers

This is the fifth installment of the play memoir series entitled "1018 15th Avenue South". Where do "Ole Uncle Toms" go when they can no longer brownnose? Does it yield any dividends when you are being pushed out of your neighborhood?

Hear the story of Thomas J. Savage as his community is being gentrified all around him. The play is loosely based upon real-life occurrences from the past in Nashville, TN before it became the country music capital.

OLE TOMS NEED NOT APPLY tells the story of Thomas J. Savage, a handyman, that became "handy" in undoing the sense of community in the area where he worked in hope of obtaining favor with a property owner. An "urban chorus" tells the story of Thomas and how he would eventually need the community that he willing alienated.
