Be prepared to interact, share and play as we explore the relationship between movement, gesture and language.
We will start with a simple warm up for the body and voice. Working individually and as a group, we will create vignettes that integrate speaking, storytelling, and text with movement. We will play games and maybe even do some writing. If you have a favorite story, poem or essay, please bring it with you.
No previous experience required. Please wear comfortable clothes for moving; we will work in barefeet or socks.
Laurie MacFarlane is a choreographer and performer who makes character-driven dance theater pieces, incorporating sound, text, costumes and props. She frequently invites other artists to collaborate in the creation of new works, including composers Gina Bonati and Dan Evans Farkas and visual artist Martha Schermerhorn.
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of The Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts.
