“If you want to make God laugh, tell him about your plans.” – Woody Allen
“Making God Laugh” tells the relatable story of three grown siblings returning to their parents’ home for various holiday gatherings. Beginning with Thanksgiving in the 1980s, the play spans three decades in four scenes, each culminating in the dreaded Family Holiday Picture at mom’s insistence. As it occurs often in real life, the siblings are quite different from one another – a struggling, aspiring actress; a former football player with his glory days behind him trying to figure out adulting; and the favorite son, the priest. The parents are coping with changes of their own – trying to preserve not-so-beloved family traditions, surviving the empty nest, and inevitable physical decline. You will be entertained by the funny dramatics and touching moments, while being reminded that sometimes our lives go down a quite different path than we’d imagined. Or planned.
“Making God Laugh” is directed by Paul Scheib and produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (www.playscripts.com). Any filming, recording or broadcast of this play is strictly prohibited.
