About The Event

Up and Becoming

Fri June 14 at 8 PM

Dances by emerging artists, including alumni and students of Rochester’s School of the Arts. Curated by Ethan Beckwith-Cohen.

UP AND BECOMING is a program created by a community of artists who are just beginning to define themselves within the larger dance community. Showcasing artists considered to be “young,” Up and Becoming explores what it means to be an “emerging artist”. Dance has been around for so long, and somehow we are all still finding a fresh newness within it.

Participating artists include CLAIRE SPENARD, NEYDA COLON-DIMARIA, GRACE MYERS, JOSE ORTIZ, SABRINA BUI, CAZ LOPATA-LINN, AMYA BRICE, HANNAH SCHNIBLE, ZAIRA ROLLE, and KIARALEE RIVERA.

Fresh out of his first year in college, ETHAN ISAAC BECKWITH-COHEN is thrilled to be in Rochester for the summer, dancing and creating with the dance community he grew up in. This is Ethan’s fourth year participating in Dances at MuCCC, and he is grateful for the support he has received from the festival since he was 16. As a young artist, Ethan was given many opportunities to showcase his choreography and he is delighted to create opportunities for other young Rochester artists to showcase theirs. Ethan graduated from Rochester's School of the Arts, danced and choreographed with Borinquen Dance Theatre, and participated in Garth Fagan Dance’s Summer Movement Institute. He co-founded The Commonplace Dance Project (with Neyda Colon-DiMaria). Ethan is currently pursuing a BFA in Dance at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
