A witty and somewhat romantic comedy assuring us that with Shaw, You Never Can Tell!

“You Never Can Tell” is one of Shaw’s earliest comedies and is a lighthearted, witty romp set in a seaside resort in England’s Edwardian era (pre WWI). Mrs. Clandon and her three children have recently returned to England from Madeira after being estranged from her husband for some twenty years. 

Her children have begun to press her to reveal their father’s identity when, due to circumstances, they meet Mr. Crampton and, not realizing he’s their father, invite him to lunch with the family. Comedy ensues, with the usual abundance of social commentary for which Shaw is known.

Classics Theater of Rochester is in its eleventh season at MuCCC and this is our eighth George Bernard Shaw production. We are a non-profit community theater program open to all participants. Our goal is to bring great works of dramatic literature to the Rochester stage and our methods are educational, inclusive and collaborative.
